Default Answered: Nothing But the Best *solved*

Summary: 60's film (i think) London, Young Man wants to marry bosses daughter and kills to hide past... but the past always catches up with everyone!

A young man working (I think) for a big London surveyor (could have been an estate agent or possibly a legal firm) is fed up with being on the bottom run of the ladder. He enters the office every day and the door man ignores him every day. Yet he sees others come and go and wants the same 'respect'. He falls for the bosses daughter who is dropped off at the office by her beau in a cool 60's (I think) sports car - possibly an Austin Healy. The young man resolves to get himself a sports car, get elevated in the office so he can 'bag' the daughter.

On the way he meets an older chap in a local cafe who persuades him that he must first start by smartening himself up, he tells him he needs to look the part! (I think the older man agrees to coach him and possibly lends him some cash).

The young man gets a sports car - open top - possibly a light blue MGB Roadster - possibly not! He then somehow presents himself at work to do some cool but cheeky moves to take someone else's phone calls in the office and then takes over on some building sites. His success follows and he wins the girl.

At some point he has to kill the older man (I think that's how it went) to cover his tracks and I think he is buried at his rented accommodation. He may well have had to kill the landlady too...

Ultimately after he has succeeded everywhere and moved on his company takes on a construction project which transpires to be on the site of his old flat. When the existing building is knocked down the body(s) is/are found and his world comes tumbling down... I have a feeling that the street where all his skeletons is buried features in the title but I could be wrong...

Any ideas what the film was called?

Many thanks

JC

This sounds very much like NOTHING BUT THE BEST (1964) directed by Clive Donner with Alan Bates as the man on the make and a wonderful performance by Denholm Elliot as the man who teaches him how to succeed.
