This is a caper movie from, I believe, the '70s or early '80s. I think a young James Fox is in it, but I can't find it on his page at allmovie.com. The plot is a plan to steal the Crown Jewels from the Tower of London. The leader (Fox?) and his friends concoct and carry out the robbery, but the tables are turned by the leader's younger brother, who was thought of, up until then, as a kind of no-account, in-the-way loser.

There is a scene during the robbery when the alarm sounds in the Tower. There is a rivalry between the Beefeaters (who guard the inside) and another unit (which guards the outside) about who turned out first.

Default The Jokers *solved*

Hello all,

I'm trying to find the name of a film produced, I believe, in the mid to late 1960s, a comedy, where two young upper class types make false bomb threats over the phone claiming to be "Red George".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi 727,

Isn't that "The Jokers" (1966) starring Oliver Reed & Micheal Crawford?

Dave,

If you put a request in the 'Looking for a video' section there's a good chance someone can sort you out with a copy.

"THE JOKERS" 1966 was one of the two films, the other "HANNIBAL BROOKS" 1969, directed by Micheal Winner written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. The pair also wrote the screenplay for "VILLIAN" 1971 from a treatment of the book by the great movie heavy Al Lettieri (the Turk in "THE GODFATHER" 1972) who died in 1975. It's a shame that none of the above have yet been released on DVD. The Two Winner films both Starring Oliver Reed would be great to watch with an audio commentary by Micheal Winner. Love him or hate him he always gives value for money with his anecdotes. And lets face it there are not many people about who have worked with the stars he has. As for "VILLIAN" well thats one of my fav's. A great film with brilliant characters and dialogue long overdue for DVD release.
