Default Unanswered: The Lock Gates

Third of four...

Might be a bit easier than the first two. Probably a British B/W film of about 1960, concerning an incompetant soldier. At one point, he has to drive a lady (I think) somewhere, and becomes lost. He travels along an overgrown driveway, until he gets to some large wooden gates, which he then opens. Unfortunately, the 'driveway' is actually the dried-up bed of an old canal - dried-up, that is, until he opens the lock gates...

Hi There.
I have a feeling I might have seen this in a Norman Wisdom?or George Formby ?film, but I dont remember the lady you mention. My recollection is very vague I think He was driving a Jeep looking for something I recall him being quite short.
Charlie Drake????
sorry I cant do better than that.

Yes, I could very easily be wrong about there being a lady involved - my memory might have been playing tricks.

Somewhere In Camp with Frank Randle springs to mind. I have it on VHS - somewhere. I'll try to dig it out and see if it features the scene you describe.

The film you're thinking about is most probably NEARLY A NASTY ACCIDENT (1961) with Kenneth Connor as the accident-prone driver and Shirley Eaton as his passenger. I remember the scene very well (they were in an old lorry...a Bedford, I think), but the film hasn't been shown on television for years.
