Hello. My wife and I have been trying to recall the name of a favorite British film released sometime in the early or mid 1980s. The plot centers around a rebelious teeange girl's coming of age. It is comedic, but bittersweet. There is a climactic (ahem) seen in which the girl gains carnal knowledge with an obliging older gent--I think in a potting shed. There is also a memorable bit of dialogue where she cries out "Up your bum!" in a repetitive singsong, much to her harried mother's embarassment. We saw the film in New York, and it enjoyed a fairly successful US distribution. Any help identifying this film will be greatly appreciated.

The film was Wish You Were Here and the girl was played by Emily Lloyd (daughter of Roger Lloyd Pack, best known for his TV roles Only Fools and Horses and The Vicar of Dibley)

YES!! That has been on the tip of my tongue for days on end and driving me insane. I stumbled across this forum during what had to have been one of the broadest, least defined searches in the history of the internet and I am so glad that I did! Thank you very much. I'll keep lurking here in hopes of returning the favor to someone else. But first I'm off to find a rental of Wish You Were Here, so I can surprise my wife.

its just been on television tonight, what a good movie, just wondering what else emily lloyd has been in, cant seem to find much about her on the net
