Default Unanswered: Eyes in a mirror

C1935-1955. BLACK AND WHITE HORROR. ONLY DETAILS I CAN REMEMBER INVOLVE A WOMAN (IN THE 1930/1940'S) LOOKING INTO A MIRROR IN A BEDROOM AND SLOWLY A MIST DEVELOPING IN THE MIRROR AND THEN A PAIR OF EYES AND I THINK SUBSEQUENTLY A FACE. I THINK THERE IS A LONG STAIRCASE OR SPIRAL STAIRCASE INVOLVED BUT I DO NOT THINK IT IS THE FILM CALLED THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE. ghostly

Could be Dead of Night
The woman looking into the mirror would be Googie Withers from The Haunted Mirror section and the spiral staircase from the Christmas Party section.

Or possibly The Uninvited (US, 1944) starring Ray Milland and Gail Russell. I remember that as a genuinely scary film (for the period) and it certainly involves a staircase.

Hasn't been on TV for a long time, and I'd love to see it again. Great film.

You can get this film on video from the States, Rob if your equipment deals with NTSC playback.
For years I tried to discover what this film, which I could only half-remember from those long-ago TV broadcasts, was called!
A hit song, "Stella by Starlight" was derived from the background score.
