Can anyone confirm the title of this filnm and supply any plot details.
I remember seeing this film late one night on TV in the early 1980s.
It featured James Booth as a police detective investigating the murder of a young girl. Having checked imdb I believe it could be 'Penny Gold' (1973) but it gives very few details of the film and no plotline. Has anyone seen this movie?

PENNY GOLD - as you say, 1973- directed by Jack Cardiff and starring James Booth and Francesca Annis.

James Booth plays a detective brought in to solve the bludgeoning to death of a young girl at a flat in the shadow of Windsor Castle. The girl has been battered beyond recognition. Investigation leads to her identical twin sister and the plot (as ever) hinges on this point.

The Penny Gold of the title is a rare and valuable stamp - as the investigation continues, Booth and his assistant (played by Nicky Henson) find that there has been a plot to steal and sell the Penny Gold which was owned by the twins' guardian.

So who exactly has been killed...?

Filmed at Pinewood and on location in Windsor, the film's John Scott score even manages to work in the sound of an old-fashioned police siren as an accompaniment!

The film hasn't been on TV for ages, but has been on since the date you have given; it is worth a look should it ever crop up again.

ADDITIONAL CAST - Una Stubbs ; Joseph Conor ; Joss Ackland ; George Murcell and the ubiquitous Marianne Stone (my heroine !) thumbs_u
