Default Unanswered: The Birthday Present (1957) *solved*
Does anyone remember this one, shown some time ago; must have been set in the late 50s, whereby a businessman goes through customs and smuggles a diamond necklace/bracelet for his wife. He gets frisked and subsequently goes to trial and is imprisoned for a while (unthinkable now, thank heavens).

He does get some benefit from his stretch inside though.
