Default Answered: Bartleby *solved*

The film I'm trying to recall is simply called 'Bartleby'or was it 'Bratleby', anyway it's about this chap whom the pychiatrists are having a problem with. They try to comminicate with him but without success. I think the doctor was Paul Schofield (or should it be Sir Paul Schofield?)

The lead player is well known on Brit TV. He played the poet Swinburn in a TV drama called 'Poppylands' set in lovely Norfolk, towards the end of the 19th Century.

That's about all I can recall, but I know I enjoyed it.

BARTLEBY (GB 1970) starred John McEnery who was the younger brother of Peter McEnery who made a number of Disney films in the 1960s. Paul Schofield, Thorley Walters and Colin Jeavons were also in the cast.
It was based on a short story, BARTLEBY THE SCRIVENER, by Herman Melville.
An updated version of this tale, also called BARTLEBY, with Crispin Glover in the title role, was made by Peter Parker in 2001.

i think Johnathan Hyde played Swinburn in that but i could be wrong, still it might just help.
Check him out on IMDB.

Lancethecook and Hugo - you've done it again! That film kept cropping up in my mind over the years. Sorted. Cheers!

The Swinburn character in 'Poppylands' was very sensitive; he couldn't stand to see flowers cut for decoration! That could have been script writers licence or it may have been true, who knows? (I'm sure someone will!)I would like to see that TV drama again, perhaps they will show it on one of the satelite channels (which I don't have). thumbs_u
