This British film was made in the 50’s or very early 60’s and had a small boy sitting on a London bus holding a teddy bear that contained a

bomb. I have been trying to recall the title so that I can try to purchase a copy of this film

I don't know about the teddy bear - but the rest sounds like Sabotage (1936) by Alfred Hitchcock.

It has a boy on a bus carrying a parcel which may or may not contain a bomb - it's the high point of suspense in the film.

But you say 50's or 60's - could it be an homage (aka a copy) of Sabotage?

The IMDb says that The Secret Agent (1996) is a version of Sabotage (1936).

Hitchcock's film SABOTAGE is an updated version of Joseph Conrad's novel THE SECRET AGENT. But since Hitchcock had just made another film called 'The Secret Agent' he could not use the same title again so he called it SABOTAGE in the UK and THE WOMAN ALONE in the US.

The 1996 film THE SECRET AGENT is a much more faithful film adaptation of Conrad's novel and like the book is set in the 1880s and the bomb carried by the main character's brother-in-law explodes at the Greenwich Observatory and not on a London bus

Hi, this sounds very much like a film starring Robert Shaw & John Gregson called "Tomorrow at Ten" (1964). I'm not a 100% sure because I came across the film halfway through but in it Robert Shaw has kidnapped a small boy & a bomb is concealed in a "Golly" which the boy keeps with him all the time but missing the early part of the film i don't know whether he goes on a bus with it. Hope this maybe some help. Good Luck

Wasn't "The Secret Agent" the version with Robin Williams as the anarchist who put bombs everywhere?

Yes, that was much closer to Conrad's book.

This version had a real strong Victorian daguerrotype sensibility to it. And, seems like an older movie.

The movie is probably 'Tomorrow at Ten'. Tomorrow at Ten was made in 1964 and is a remake of an early 50s or late 40s film. I can't remember the title of the 40s/50s movie but since the working title of Tomorrow at Ten was 'The Golliwog', it's possible that that's the title of the earlier film.

The little boy was kidnapped and the kidnapper did place a bomb in his golliwog. The boy was locked in a room in a house in a remote location. The audience was aware that the police, on the way to the house, wouldn't have time to reach the boy before the bomb exploded. The ending is terrific. The boy solves the problem in a way the audience watching the film would never guess. Low budget film, but the suspense makes it worthwhile. The 40s/50s original, also British, is better then the 1964 remake. An American or Canadian television remake in the 70s or 80s was terrible. I believe it was also titled, Tomorrow at Ten.

But the boy never gets on a bus in TOMORROW AT TEN- Shaw kidnaps him pretty much at the start of the movie and drives him to his secret Home Counties hiedout, and there he remains until the end. No public transport involved.

I didn't realise that the 1964 version was a remake though- nor did I realise that it had been remade since across the pond. Maybe we're due for another one, methinks?

I vaguely remember a black and white film where the stuffed doll that a girl is carrying has some significance, the solution to something that the police and the bad guys are after but the adults don't catch on until the end. It is torn open at that point to reveal something but I don't think it's drugs.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? It was one of those films which used to be on every so often then just stopped.

How about Night of the Hunter with the stolen money hidden in the little girls's doll?

    A Great film.

If only Chares Laughton had been given another chance.

I think you are right because you triggered from my dusty memory the pointed moments when the camera shoves a clock in yer face but holds fast on the arrows pointing to it.

'Wait Until Dark' with Audrey Hepburn? The villains in this are looking for a doll, which I think was stuffed with drugs (or diamonds?). Heburn plays a blind girl, whose apparent boyfriend is stalking her for the contraband (whatever it is). The climax is a scene in which he pursues her through her basement flat, in which she has smashed the lightbulbs to give herself the advantage - but he opens the fridge door, to illuminate her... (I think).

Is this the one you mean?
