Over 40 years ago, I saw on US TV one of the many British crime comedies of the time (1950s-early 1960s). Well, in fact, I saw a lot of these, and that's probably part of the problem ... I can't remember which was which, or indeed many of the titles at all.

For years I've looked for a compendium of British comedy films of that era, and amazingly have never found anything both comprehensive and informative. The closest I came was a book I found around 1989, which was destroyed in a basement flood before I had a chance to peruse it.

At any rate, my immediate question involves a (to my adolescent sensibilities) hilarious scene from one of these flicks involving a series of mishaps culminating, as I recall, in an outrageous runaway hearse chase. I'd say the film would have to have been made before 1962, most likely.

Can anyone tell me what it was (he whined, pathetically)?

That was a horse-drawn hearse chase across Northern Ireland to the border with Eire. For a motorised one, perhaps Too Many Crooks? Have a look at http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0052301/ for some more details. It features a strong comedy cast - Terry-Thomas, George Cole, Sid James, Brenda de Banzie, Bernard Bresslaw, Nicholas Parsons, John Le Mesurier, Terry Scott and Edie Martin.

That was my first thought too. But as you rightly point out, the date doesn't quite fit.

    Morning All,

Could someone help jog my memory please. I'm trying to remember the title of a film based on a scene I remember. It involves some sort of bank heist plot. The money is is a coffin in an ambulance. A man is riding a bike up a hill while the ambulance is in front of him and the coffin slides out the back of the ambulance and passes the man on the bike... Hilarious!

Not much to go on, I know. But if anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

    Cheers!
