Donkey years since I saw it...the only time-travel comedy I can think of is Fiddlers Three...
Trying this for a friend on another forum ...
Can anyone identify it please?
"Made in the forties, a British B/W comedy to do with time travel where the characters witness the execution of King Charles the First. it's a really small scene, not part of the main plot.
Up until the weekend I was convinced it was 'Time Flies' starring Tommy Handley, but having just viewed it, on my copy that scene isn't there."

That was my thought bit its set in ancient Rome. Did they pass through some other time zones briefly on the way?![]()

That's what I was wondering....
Possibly "The Ghosts of Berkeley Square" (GB, 1947) ?
Fiddlers Three remains entirely in Rome (Nero, Fiddlers, geddit?).

This has turned out to be 'Cardboard Cavalier'. Thanks for your input though!
Memories of two films intertwined here, I think. Cardboard Cavalier isn't a time travel movie - that IS Time Flies, but it does involve Charles I in the plot. Time Flies involves a trip back to Elizabethan times. I think you have merged aspects of two films in one memory - which is encouraging cos that's exactly what I did! I've ordered DVDs of both from collectors on Ebay so I'll be watching them again in the next few days.
Best wishes,
