Inn for Trouble?
I'm looking for the name of a film I remember seeing on TV as a child in the late fifties early sixties. The film must date from forties / fifties, plot roughly as follows. Post war (?) London(?). Brother and sister have lost mother. Father in Navy and children are sent to lodge with rather dubious family (Landlady and her kids). Landlady steals girl's watch, sells it and and spends money on booze. Landlady's tart of daughter tries to lead the sister astray. Life is misery and shared suffering causes bonds to develop between the two sets of children. All problems solved when Landlady dies falling down stair when drunk. I only recall seeing this once, and I could be mixing up more than one plot!
DB7, I think you mean NO ROOM AT THE INN (GB 1948)

Yep, wrong Inn![]()
Thanks, that's definitely the one
I believe two of the stars of the above film was Freda Jackson & Joan Dowling.
No Room at the Inn (1948) is one of those films that has been 'MIA' for many years now. I recall seeing it only once before, as a youngster in the 1970s, when it was shown on ITV, in the days when they broadcast a matinee film every weekday afternoon. The Ringer (1952) with Donald Wolfit, is another one that springs to mind, which was shown on ITV in this timeslot and doesn't appear to have resurfaced ever since.
