name='Sharlatan']Hi there,
I have been trying to remember the name of a film that I saw a few years ago on late night ABC (Australian) TV. It's an old black and white film, really early from memory, about a girl who stops machinery whenever she is next to it. From memory, only her father knows that it's her stopping the machinery, hence the bucolic life they lead in the country. She's young and beautiful and men fall madly in love with her. I am not sure how or why, but there is a young male journalist involved in the plot as well. They fall in love?? but it's a bit of a bumpy ride (I can't remember why) and it's revealed by her father to someone that the only cure for his daughter is when she truly falls in love.
I can remember two scenes really clearly. At the very start (when we first see the girl) she is catching a lift with some young chap in his brand new car and it conks out for no known reason. She then finishes her trip home by walking through the fields and once she's a goodly distance away the car inexplicably starts again. The second scene I remember, but maybe not so clearly is her in the newspaper printing room with the journo and few others? The printing presses stop, but once the girl and the journo kiss they start again and then we all know she's fallen in love and she's 'cured'.
Is this ringing bells for anyone? I've been driving myself nuts over this and, having looked at your postings, there is a great wealth of knowledge residing in this website. Also, if you can solve it, do you know if it's available on dvd? For some reason I think it's called The Girl Who Stopped Time, but I can't find any reference to that anywhere else.
Thanks
Sharlatan
