Sounds like The Quiet Earth
hi,can anyone help with some info
i remember many years ago seeing a film about the last remaining people on earth. they were stranded in i think new zealand after some catastrophe.
i am sure during the entire film only about six people featured.
does anyone know anything about this film.
many thanks
Could be 'On the Beach' with Gregory Peck.
"On the Beach" (1959) was my first thought, however, the cast numbered many more than six.
On checking "The Quiet Earth" (1985) in IMDb, this seems to fit the bill. Kiwi writers, Kiwi director, Kiwi cast, and filmed in Aotearoa - the Land of the Long White Cloud.
Kia ora!
Or, as at the time of the apartheid South African cricket tour in the 1970s when the visitor were labelled "The Wrong White Crowd"name='ShirlGirl']Aotearoa - the Land of the Long White Cloud.![]()

thanks so much for the replies,i appreciate it.
i am sure it is THE QUIET EARTH. now all i have to do is track down a copy.
many thanks
The Quiet Earth DVD is easily and cheaply available - I'm after a copy of the book, by Craig Harrison, scary prices if you can even find a copy!!
It's definitely THE QUIET EARTH, and it's a great film. Post-apocalyptic movies are one of my fave genres, but it seems the Kiwis and the Aussies do it so well, probably because of their barren landscapes. Obviously we all remember MAD MAX, but how about LONG WEEKEND? That's another belter. I hear that possibly the greatest Down Under horror of all time, OUTBACK (aka WAKE IN FRIGHT) is finally about to be released on DVD after someone found it in a cargo marked 'ready for destruction' in the States!! Fortuitous or what?
As there are a lot of 'Can You Name This Film?' subjects still credited as 'Unanswered', when indeed they have been, there might be more solved requests than we think. Is it up to original poster Loudonsmum to mark this as 'Answered', one year later?
Current number of 'Unanswered' films is a staggering 598. With this one confirmed as The Quiet Earth (1985) and my correctly guessing 'Jesus' (currently on page 4) as Whistle Down The Wind a few weeks ago, that can now be reduced to 596! Incidentally, I chanced upon this thread at 'Who's Online?'.

We can't force the original poster who asked the question to come back and decide if it's been answered or not

Maybe you need a new category like "Probably Correct" or "Too Lazy or Impolite To Bother Acknowledging"![]()

There must be some way an administrator can come back and mark them as answered, especially where the original poster has come back and said "yes that is it"

How does the system work? There's a question from cymro glan regarding a film marked Strip Poker? Still labelled as unanswered, yet he/she has come back qualifying an answer as right.
He/she has said in a message that the question has been answered satisfactorily but he/she hasn't told the forum and selected which one they think is the best answer.name='HUGHJAMPTON']How does the system work? When the OP looks at the thread, each message from someone else has a link on it saying (Mark Best Answer). It's only when they select one of those that the thread will be marked as answered.

I have only had the opportunity to do that once, with a film called The Frozen Dead. I wasn't sure at first but came to my senses and realised it HAD to be that film*. It was such a thrill to discover the title that I clicked Best Answer with RELISH (not 'Gentleman's Relish'!), so I don't understand why nearly 600 threads haven't had that exciting confirmation. You've waited long enough to find out!

Incidentally, I saw Kathleen Breck (The Blue Head) a couple of hours ago in the definitive version of The Three Musketeers. Interesting actress.
