This is another one I should know. It is a 60s British film, probably well known, but the plot has gone from me completely. As I remember it, they are trendy Carnaby Street types and in the final scene they drive into the Thames in an Amphicar which sails up the river to the credits.

Don't ask me how but I do remember snippets of this film. It involved Michael Bentine waiting for his prize racing pidgeon to finish it's race. The film did end up with him sailing/driving (?) down the Thames in an amphicar.

I have just looked it up on IMDB and it's called "The Sandwich Man" (1966)

There's a scene in Rotten to the Core where the gang use one of these vehicles to get away on a river. Don't think they were terribly fast.

Thanks for that, it was `The Sandwich Man' I was thinking of. It is coming back to me now, a period piece of the swinging sixties with Bentine linking assorted characters. I seem to remember he gets a young couple back together at the end which involves the Amphicar on the river.

    (oh those halcyon days)

Wonderful film, from what i remember.

Oh and just to defend my age it was a re-run some years after it's release

I think one appears in 'Inspector Clouseau'(1968) as well although not in the Thames.

I remember a car expert writing about the Amphicar when it first came out saying that the problem with the design was that it never looked at home in either environment. On the road it looked like a frog like boat on wheels. On the water it resembled a sinking convertable!
