Year back there was a short on TV. A lone actor telling how he as a "lord" married for money and arranged an accidental drowning of his wife to gain her estate. He didn't realize that his children were witnesses, so had to also drown them. I remember him wading into the pond wearing a full suit. The only dialogue I remember was something along the line: "Come children, there has been a terrible accident!". He did a lot of pantomine of the act of throttling his family.

If anyone can remember this, thanks.

Yes it's the brilliant 1992 short tv film 'A Sense of History' directed by Mike Leigh and written & starring Jim Broadbent. As far as I know it's not available on dvd or vhs.
