When I was younger I watched an old British Black and White Film on TV (possibly 1940's) and am trying to find the title of the film.

It was very British in humour and was almost surreal in story line: as I remember it, the film was based in the war, the location was in a village and the quirky bit I remember was a man running around with glue causing havoc! The police are brought in to try and find this mad man and that's all I remember.

Sorry it's extremely vague, but it always stuck in my mind (if you excuse the pun) and I'd love to watch it again.

p.s By the way, I can assure you I was not on drugs as a kid and I'm 98% sure this happened in the film........!

Wow, that was quick! Thanks orpheum that's great.

What a bizarre plot to a film. Will try and find it on DVD.

It's a well known film to all of us that love that sort of quaint and quirky film.

It's available on a very good Criterion DVD or on a French DVD (but with the main film still in English) or on a basic DVD with no extras from Carlton

If you search through this forum you'll find it mentioned in quite a few other threads

As you're in Kent, you might like to join us on our annual ACT location walk on Sunday, August 31. We'll be in Chillingbourne this year.

Thanks Steve for all the info. Because I saw it such a long time I only remember a few scenes, and now I have actually looked it up after this forum's help and found it to be quite a famous Powell and Pressburger film, I feel a bit silly!

Thanks for the Chillingbourne walk offer, but I am actually on my honeymoon that date and I can't see my Missus letting me go to that!

That's not a very good start to a marriage is it? Where is your spirit? You both need to get your priorities right. Be a man for goodness sake! If all else fails beg!!!

Ha Ha!!! It doesn't look good does it for my "honeymoon period".

Maybe I could suggest we cancel Sardinia and join the Kent day out instead.

As you said, I already know what I'm doing in Aug 2009!
