Trying to remember this movie - my sister thinks it might be called 'Golden Hair'. It was around every christmas in the 70s along with Singing Ringing Tree and Three Wishes For Cinderella.

I remember little bits such as a scene where a 'prince' has to identify 'golden hair' who is in a line up with other girls - all are hidden by veils. A bee or some other insect hovers over 'golden hair' so the prince can pick her out. She gets a lot of help from creatures - insects, fish etc.

Also, I remember some kind of dish washing contest, sounds weird I know, and when a dark haired girl sees that golden hair is going to win she scratches all of golden hairs dishes with a diamond ring.

Am hoping someone answers because this has been driving me nuts for about 10 years.

    Thanks

Argh! That's really familiar. I want to know what this is too, now.

According to the BFI site it was called Golden Hair, was Czech and was shown in 1975 and/or 1979 depending on which entry you look at. Golden Hair

There's a little bit on TV Cream about it here.

But other than I can only find other people posting on other sites asking what it is!

If I recall correctly, there is a servant to a king who is fishing up a special snake which is said to give whoever eats it the power to be able to understand animals. The little rascaL eats a little of the snake and is amazed to be able to understand what some creatures are saying about a girl called Goldenhair, so much so that he keeps pouring the wine until it spills everywhere. The king, who can now understand the animals sends him off to find her, or face he punishment for eating a bit of the snake, so he sets off and isaided by the animals and insects he comes across on his search. Something like that anyway......

I appreciate all the comments. I had seen the listing on BFI and have been checking all the Czech movie lists I can find on the internet but no mention of Goldenhair. Would be such a shame if the movie was lost.

Will check out TV Cream. Was born and raised in Northern Ireland and love to remember the TV shows I grew up with - half the stuff wouldn't have a snowballs getting made these days.

Thanks again. Will keep up the search.

Are you sure it was a movie? I seem to remember it being a serial. Of course it could have been a movie broken down into segments. I remember it being shown during summer holidays whenm they would also show stuff like Champion The Wonder Horse, White Horses, Zorro, Belle and Sebastion etc

You know I'm not completely sure, it could have been a serial. I think they did the same with Singing Ringing Tree (a movie they broke it up into 3 parts).

Loved Belle & Sebastian too - my sis and I ran home from school so we wouldn't miss it.

Maybe it'll surface some day - I contacted the company who had brought out Singing Ringing Tree on DVD to see if they had any knowledge of Goldenhair and they stated at that time something to the effect that the catalog they were holding had been transferred to another company. I contacted the second company a couple of times but they never replied to my emails.

    The hunt continues.

It has been a while but I finally tracked down this movie. Its Czech name is Zlatovlaska which translates as Goldilocks - all over youtube if you search by the original name.
