My sister and I were discussing films we enjoyed most from our childhood and we could not come up with the name of the Hammer Horror (I'm sure it was, anyway) that instructed patrons to block their ears when they heard the Horror Horn and avert their eyes when they saw the Fear Flasher.

Can anyone help us out with the name of this gem?

The movie is "chamber of horrors" (1966). Originaly made as a pilot for tv it was showen theatricaly as it was thought a bit much for tv. Stars patrick o'neal, cesore danova and wilfred hyde white.

Yes, I saw this movie in 1967. I didn't think it was that scary... the "Horror Horn and flashing warning" were pure hype, which probably succeeded in drawing the crowds. The bad guy's name was Jason Cravat (dunno why I remember that!) and he had one of his hands amputated in an accident but promptly turned adversity into advantage by purchasing a kit of devilish appendages to fit onto the stump...

I don't think it was a Hammer production - not nearly classy enough.

That's the one! It all comes flooding back now!

One of the local TV stations here used to show a 'horror' double bill on a Friday night when I was growing up and some made more of an impression than others.

It wasn't remotely scary as I recall - just hilarious with the Fear Flasher and Horror Horn.

I love gimmicks in horror films! The Screaming Skull (a film I incorrectly sited as a British film on another thread - it was actually American) promised to pay for your funeral if the movie scared you to death. Very little chance of that happening - you could see a stage hand pushing it about with a stick to make it move menacingly.
