It might be The Man Who Loved Redheads.
I caught this on tv in the late 80s and I've always wanted to see the rest. What I remember is that this movie seemed to be set in the early 1900s. There were two children, a boy and a girl, talking upstairs. I seem to remember there was a gathering elsewhere in the house. They make a promise to always stay friends and then both look out the window at the snow together.
The movie then moves on to when they are adults in their early twenties. One man is sitting in a chair reading, then a woman and a man burst into the room, both very happy, dancing together and singing something like, "When you dance with a prince..." The man in the chair asks the woman who she was dancing with and she responds, "The Prince of Wales!"
I'd appreciate any ideas as to what this movie could be.

.
Wasnt this song that strange theme tune of Edward and Mrs Simpson with Edward Fox circa 1970s?
"I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced witht he Prince of Wales" etc etc
I seem to recollect
Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that it is in colour and looks like it would have been made in the 1970s and 1980s.
From what I remember of the costume/decor, the story might be set in the 1920s - so it would make sense if Edward was the Prince of Wales at the time.
I have since youtubed the theme to "Edward and Mrs. Simpson" (by Herbert Farjeon) and it sounds like this was the song the young woman was singing in my original description. But the movie I saw wasn't "Edward and Mrs. Simpson".
It was a well-known song from the twenties and early thirties; any film set during that era may have used it.....
