This should be easy for all those with knowledge of British war/pow films.
The scene that sticks in my mind after many many years is this. Two POWs are working at fence building. One is steadying a large wooden post while the other is wacking it into the ground with a great big sledgehammer.
For some reason the chap holding the post slowly moves his hand up and puts it on top under the falling hammer. Obviously you don't see anything but it still makes me go cold. May have been done for an escape attempt.
It may even be one the best known of the genre, but apart from Great Escape they don't seem to get shown these days.
Cheers all.

The Captive Heart _ Michael Redgrave wants an excuse to disguise his handwriting as he's taken on someone else's identity (he's a Czech who has escaped from a concentration camp and taken a dead British officer's uniform and the Germans are wondering why he isn't writing to the Brit's wife)

Thanks Cap - Yes that's the film. And now I can remember why he did it.
