Default Unanswered: high society cad during the great war.

I remember watching a film in the U.K probably in the seventies, and made about then, concerning a scoundrel who should have been in the trench's fighting with his men instead
he becomes a 'male escort' and takes advantage of ladies (i think of high society)
and tries to become part of the easy living.
sorry thats all i can recall. any ideas.

P.S it is not 'The Charmer' with Nigel Havers

thanks folks

I seem to remember Rex Harrison in film titled The Rakes Progress. But, that was set in the time of WW2.

It was indeed WW2 but the plot does fit....failing that, it's a fine film anyway, one of Harrison's best performances of that era.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

I agree with "The Rake's Progress" which certainly is WWII. That was a good estimate though - we narrowed it down to within only one world war.

It was also made rather a long time before the 1970s - but maybe you saw it on TV then!

hi guys sorry 'bout delay --hols!
will pursue "The Rake's Progress" even though it is not likely to be the one it would still be worth obtaining in any case could turn out to be the one.---but i am pretty sure it was WW1 had a post Edwardian touch to it.
will get a copy of "Monocled Mutineer" if i can it may be that clitheroekid was right all along and my memory is dodgy
will get back if i find out for sure on these ideas.

Doesn't sound like Percy Toplis (The Monacled Mutineer) at all:
