Could this be the tragic Armchair Theatre production No Trams to Lime Street (1959), by Alun Owen and starring Billie Whitelaw?

That was set in Liverpool. It was remade twice so if that's the one it could be any of those versions.

Ken Loach's Ladybird Ladybird (1994) is about a single parent whose children are taken into care and is set in Liverpool I think.

It was far worst in Ireland, where wayward girls and unmarried mothers were sent to work in the convent laundry service and get brutalised by the nuns and have their babies adopted and sent away never to be seen again.



According to the film 'The Magdalane Sisters', the last convent laundry closed in 1994?
