Hello ~ I'm new to this Forum so please bear with me while I find my way around!

I'm organising a very special and unique charity event that might appeal to Richard Todd/Dambusters fans. The event is 'An Evening with Richard Todd~star of the stage and screen' which is being held at Grimsthorpe Castle near Bourne, Lincolnshire on Saturday, October 6th 2007 commencing at 6.30pm to support the National Deaf Children's Society. Richard will be speaking to an audience about his fascinating life and career and he will be hosting a questions and answers session. Colin Young, a BBC TV antique expert(Bargain Hunt) will be conducting an auction of prizes and Ruth Montgomery, an internationally acclaimed flautist will be performing a selection of Richard's favourite pieces of music. The tickets are £35 each and includes Champagne, drinks and canapes. The dress code is lounge suit.

Tickets are strictly limited and MUST be purchased in advance. For more details or to purchase tickets, please contact me as soon as possible.
Batty.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

I have just received an email from the organiser of this event telling me that it has been cancelled due to ill-health.

Sadly, must it be presumed that Richard Todd is in ill health?

Indeed.

'Toddy' did one of the NEC Memorabilia events a couple of years back and was amazingly bright and very sharp. Sorry to hear that he's unwell and I too hope that the situation is soon rectified.

Must say it was amazing to meet him. Top man !

I was going to take Mrs Bat to the cancelled event as a surprise. She is a huge 'Toddy' fan. It's a good job I didn't tell her, it would have been the second Todd related disappointment for her. I was going to take her to see him on stage a few years ago and a friend of mine who worked at the theatre had asked Richard if he would meet us. He very kindly said 'yes'. Unfortunately, for personal reason, he had to cancel his performances for a couple of weeks so we were unable to meet him. My friend told me that Richard was the nicest 'big star' who he'd worked with at that theatre, a real gentleman.

Richard is 88 and probably the last of the British leading men of the 1950s still with us. More, Hawkins, Gregson, Granger, Mills, Borgarde etc, the actors I went to to see at the cinema as a child, are all dead. I too wish Toddy well, and I hope Bats and Mrs Bat get to see him before too long.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

And still very active. Lord Dickie and the Lady Sheila were with us at the screening of A Canterbury Tale in Canterbury cathedral. He is only 84 though, a mere youngster when compared to Jack Cardiff who was also there. Jack was feeling a bit tired because he'd been up late the night before, celebrating his 93rd birthday

There is also Norman Wisdom, who was a childhood favourite of mine and George Cole who I remember fondly in A Life of Bliss and The Green Man.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

I have just finished Richard Todd's autobiography 'Caught In The Act' and thoroughly reccomend it. What a colourful life the man has had.

Get well soon Richard!
