I really hope this marvellous event is televised either live or recorded ... so everyone can enjoy and pay tribute to the sublime work of the wonderful John Barry.

Northern Echo:
Dame Shirley Bassey will join Sir Tim Rice, Sir Michael Caine and Sir Michael Parkinson at the John Barry Memorial Concert.
All profits from the event, on Monday, June 20, will benefit a scholarship launched by the Barry family in his memory.

Unfortunately I think the cost of such a recording might prove prohibitive, unless the artists and musicians were willing to forgo that part of their fee. It is, after all, for charity!
At the time of typing tickets have been on sale for a day and a bit, but only seats in the choir section and upper circle remain available. Probably less than 400 all told, which isn't bad!
We've booked for the choir. Looking forward to this.
I would have loved to go to this, but £ and other commitments prevent it.
Well it was wonderful. Shame Caine's presence was only via a video prerecord but it was a marvellous evening, apart from Rumer's appalling rendition of We Have All The Time In The World.
Bassey was astounding. (obviously the sound on this clip doesn't really do her justice).
Many thanks for posting the Dame Shirley clip, Timmy ... so pleased you enjoyed the John Barry evening ... do you know if the concert was recorded for television?

It was recorded for Radio 2 Friday Night is Music Night. Rumer was shocking and I couldn't quite believe that Alfie Boe being indisposed meant we had to suffer 'Go Compare' instead singing Ave Maria. Still, Shirley Bassey was in marvellous voice, it was good to see David Arnold perform both one of Barry's last songs and the Bond theme. Timothy Dalton gave a moving reading of a favourite poem of Barry's, while George Martin, Don Black and Michael Caine (on film) shared their memories. And the music was superb. A very good evening and good to see the launch of the new student scholarship.
Wish the video maker had left in the expected crescendo of applause that would surely have followed Shirley Bassey's performance!
For anyone, who, like myself, missed Friday Night is Music Night ... BBC Radio 2:

Very nice account, Emma, it was an excellent concert. The only comment I would make is that it was trumpeter Derek Watkins who (allegedly) played on every Bond film score, not Saxophonist Nigel Hitchcock.
I'm a bit confused, Emma. Your link is only to the Shirley Bassey bits of the concert. Are you saying there is a complete video of this concert around??
Thanks Geoffers![]()

Hi didi,
It's the complete BBC Radio 2 audio (unfortunately not video) concert ... running at 1 hour 57 minutes ... and as far as I can tell uncut and unedited ... it's presently on YouTube ... (hopefully the link is to the entire concert) I was looking for it on BBCi Player but it had long gone from there ... and was surprised and delighted to find the entire concert with superb BBC Radio 2 digital audio quality on YouTube ... however it may not be there for long.
Might be best to download/copy asap
