Hi
Please forgive a blatant bit of publicity but BFI Southbank is showing a whole month of Margaret Lockwood films in January, including an extended run of The Lady Vanishes. Muriel Pavlow and Julie Harris (costume designer) will be there to introduce some of the screenings and there are some rare television plays on too. Go to http://www.bfi.org.uk/whatson/bfi_so...garet_lockwood for more information. I'd be interested to hear any comments on her work or the choice of films. |

Do see 'Cast a Dark Shadow' it's one of her best performances and the rest of the cast is fabulous - Mona Washbourne, Kay Walsh, Kathleen Harrison and Dirk Bogarde. It becomes a little set-bound toward the end though (it was originally a play called 'Murder Mistaken') but it is thoroughly entertaining. There is also a rather startling scene of Bogarde casually reading a certain type of magazine which must have raised a few eyebrows amongst his female fans.

Today I saw The Lady Vanishes and The Man in Grey. The first was new to me and brilliant. Frank Skinner was sat near me...
The Man in Grey is most certainly the edited print. The quality wasn't too good, and the edits were very jumpy. In some parts a loud buzzing sound totally ruined the film. I have the full-length print on DVD, but you'd think the BFI would know better. |
