Default A Canterbury Tale - NFT2

A Canterbury Tale, introduced by Victor Burgin at the NFT2 on Saturday 21st April, at 3:30. Two months away but for those travelling to London, you have time to put this in your planner.

I'm a great believer in seeing films on the big screen, the way their directors and cinematographers intended them to be seen. All too often, unfortunately, theatres don't/can't screen the films we are dying to see, so we have to watch them on a smaller TV screen, hopefully not prints altered to fit the small screen but many times yes which makes it worse. Fortunately, we have the wonderful Criterion DVD of ACT, but nothing is the same as seeing this on the big screen.

Here is your chance to see the wonderful black and white "A Canterbury Tale." For me, this is a very special film particularly in its mystical quality and cherishing of an England now vanished in many areas. The first time I saw ACT on a large screen, to my delight I saw things I hadn't noticed before. The audience, many of whom had never seen it at all, was enthralled with it. Indeed ... it's Powell and Pressburger at their best.

All the best,

Barbara

It could be a good one. Prof Victor Burgin (Goldsmith College, London) is an artist who did an installation called Listen to Britain which used quite a few scenes from ACT in it. It could be interesting to hear what he has to say about the film.

Are you coming over for it?

Steve

I would love to give it shot depending on when the AMOLAD stage play is in May, plus there is the Nottingham Silents Film Festival in late April. Oh dear, too many goodies, too little time. I might as well just stay there until the Canterbury Walk in August!. I wish.

All the best,

Barbara

I think it'd just be easier for you to buy a house over here. It'd be cheaper than all those hotel charges
You know we always like to see you here.
The AMOLAD stage play is expected to open on May 3rd.
