Hi everyone,
Ive got a presentation coming up we are doing it about Hitchcock's image. how he built it up and kept it. I just wanted to ask, is there something that always springs to mind when you hear him mentioned, any enduring images, something you think of as typically Hitch? thanks guys thumbs_u |

Wrong button again! I think mostly about the way Hitchcock got Joan Fontaine to think that everyone on set disliked her, so that she would appear more ill at ease than she was, even though, with Olivier despising her, she had enough on her plate already. And was it he who made the remark that you should treat actors like cattle?

His obsession with the blonde e.g. Tippi Hedren in Marnie.
And His cameos. My three favourites are 1. Doors closing before he can board bus (North by Northwest) 2. Walking across skyline at the top of a long flight of steps.(I Confess) 3. Bystander as police fish body from the Thames (Frenzy) |

His Cameos, his obsession with all his leading ladies, the mere mention of his name, makes people think of being thilled whilst watching his films, his entrance on the T.V.show with a very sombre(by design)"Good Evening" and the glib, understated way he would discuss a horrific scene in one of his films.

His screen image, which is strange for a director who started in the 30's, always the suit and from the 50's and his colour films always the dark suit. The sombre facade in his T.V appearances and film trailers. Then his self starring jokey, smutty home movies and out-takes. His catholicism showing with the guilt issues his characters, hero's and villians, are put through.
