Came across a wonderful site built be Herbert Smith's son Barrie. Has great photographs
"Herbert Smith born in 1901 was a mega man in the British film industry having started in the then "new fangled" film business at the age of only 13 sweeping the studio floors. He became one of the most powerful men in the British film industry controlling the premier British Studio at Denham from June 1945 until 1950 when it closed". I notice we already have a link to this, but no harm in reminding people of it Enjoy Freddy Last edited by Freddy; 12-03-2007 at 12:48 PM. Reason: addit not edit |

Greetings All,
Just a quick note to say that I have made many updates to Herbert's memorial site during the past few weeks, mainly on ealiest & early days pages with newly discovered photos of people like: T.Hayes Hunter who directs Cathleen Nesbitt with Herbert by his side on set of The Case of the Frightened Lady (1932) Above Herbert with Warwick Ward and Lilian Oldland on the set of To Oblige a Lady (1931) Very young Anna Neagle holding her man, Lilian Oldland drinking Champers below while Left, Herbert takes tea on set but we are not too sure with whom. [can you help?] Early days page: Jean Gillie from The Tawny Pipit (1944) Herbert was the Associate Producer. A very early shot of The Three Stooges, Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curley Howard. c.1933.The Gent in the suite is Ernst Lubitsch, famous director of To Be or Not to Be. (1942) There are also detailed changes to the look of the site, cleaned up a bit! enjoy, Barrie.
