The shot near the end in which Harry Lime's hands reach for the sewer grate are actually the hands of director Carol Reed.

Which adds a possibly bizarre twist to the story - did Harry Lime escape a second time and go on to appear in the radio series The Adventures of Harry Lime?

I realized that the subject was of directors making uncredited appearances in films (and I will come up with some). I thought I would mention Ian Brown following a mention of Mick Jagger, who is primarily a rock singer. It would not have been apparant to you as you were not aware who he was. I suppose Mick Jagger has at least had some producer credits, like George Harrison.

Sticking to the rukles, Peter Jackson in all of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Heavenly Creatures and The Frighteners. Only one of these films is British however.

Where surreptitiously amongst the darkness of the airwaves he shed 5 stone grow 3" and returned svelte as Micheal Rennie in the company of Jonathan Harris as his (light on the loafers) manservant on BBC TV.

And also a much gentler and dare I say law abiding "Harry", mmmm seems like his "escape" from the sewers certainly seemed to have done wonders! wink

Dickie Attenborough was originally uncredited in In Which We Serve. Producer Andrew Macdonald pops up in Trainspotting as the London flat client.

IIRC a number of the production team (including Michael Carreras) appeared at the start of Hammer's THAT'S YOUR FUNERAL in 73, as mourners at the graveside.

What I don't recall is were they uncredited ? Anybody remember ?

The IMdb doesn't list any mourners in the full cast list, so I presume they were uncredited.

Mel Smith is also seen running past the ticket collecter at Highters Heath train station just as Kevin McNally pulls a gun on him.

Well if Mr.Smith is trying to emulate Hitchcock he certainly has the physique and bottom lip for it. Unfortunately he's a bit lacking in the old directorial department.
