A contact at Napier University, Edinburgh, tells me that Erwin Hillier has passed away. It's sad but not altogether unsurprising as he had been ill for a while.
Erwin was the cinematographer on I Know Where I'm Going! (1945), School for Scoundrels (1960) and many others. He was pretty good in colour but masterful in B&W. Steve |

The only obituary notice I've seen that has a picture is a potted one that has just been entered on the EI Obituary site for January: http://www.einsiders.com/features/columns/...5obituaries.php However, the Independant has a very good notice written by Tom Vallance: http://news.independent.co.uk/people/obitu...sp?story=607179 |

Good to hear Stephen Fry give Hillier a namecheck after the 'In Memoriam' segment on last night's BAFTA awards (although not true that he "died in the last few days" its still the only place his death has received a primetime TV report).
