Default Female Directors

I am studying A2 Media Studies and am presently working on a Critical Research Study into Women in Film.

I chose this topic because i wanted to investigate why there is just a 4%percentage of female directors in the industry.

I am concentrating primarily on the works of Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion and Sally Potter.

I would be extremely interested to know your views on why women are so poorly presented as directors in mainstream films.

Thank you for your time.

Would you happen to know the percentage of representation of women in producer roles, in film and television?? It seems to be higher...is there any particular reason why women would choose production careers as opposed to directorial careers...or is it down to the old gender-defined roles, eg secretarial roles, giving a better training for future producers ?? For instance, the head of Kudos (Spooks, Hustle, Echo Beach/Moving Wallpaper et al) started as Paul Gascoicgne's PA??

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

There was a young woman on Film-2008 last night. She has just finished making and obtaining distribution for her feature-film. She is 21. She obtained a bank loan for £20,000 then a further £400,000 commitment from local businesses...... She sounds remarkably determined.

She was a pretty little thing.........

You can see her here:

Yes but what it did not tell us was what happened to her film after it was turned down by all the distributors 6 months ago.If she has an unseen film lying on the shelf then her grandiose plans for 2 films a year are going to come to nothing as she will not be able to raise further money from investors

Probably because, although it is more useful, it's a lot harder
