Default Anthony Minghella Dies

Breaking news from the BBC News website is that Anthony Minghella has died. Nothing further has been posted at this point.

EDIT: Now confirmed by his agent. He was 54. His most recent work, an episode of The No1 Ladies Detective Agency is due to be screened over Easter on the BBC

Very sorry to hear that ...

But I have to say, looking at that photo of him, he didn't exactly seem the healthiest of individuals

Very sad to hear that, he had a lot of productive years ahead of him.

Terrible news. The poor man had his most productive years as a director ahead of him. British and world cinema is poorer for his passing.

My condolences to his friends and family.

I loved Talented Mr Ripley - he got career-best performances out of Matt Damon and Jude Law.

He was interviewed on The Culture Show just last weekend, on location in Botswana filming The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I've not read the books but I really liked it when it was on Radio 4 and had already intended to watch it

Are you a medical practitioner? Does it matter what he looked like?

The man had great talent and, sadly, his passing means that the British Film industry will be missing another of its' major contributors sooner than it should.

RIP Anthony

And his family will be missing a husband and father. Very sad news.

Update from the BBC News site:
He had an operation for a growth in his neck last week and the operation seemed to have gone well. But he had a fatal haemorrhage at 0500 GMT on Tuesday.

It doesn't matter much how healthy or unhealthy you look if that sort of thing happens

Wasn't it Minghella whose family makes ice cream on the Isle of Wight? Might seem an irrelevant detail, but I'm sure the locals round there held a lot of affection for Anthony and his family.
