Default Sydney Pollack Dies.

Really sad news reached me over the phone this morning. Sydney Pollack has died. Only 73, he died yesterday of cancer. His agent says he died yesterday afternoon in Los Angeles, his family were there with him. Personally I remember him appearing in "Tootsie". Another good one gone.
RIP Sydney.

Apart from being a fine director, I always rated him highly as an actor too. RIP Mr Pollack.

Very sad.

Out of Africa remains one of my favourite films added to which it includes John Barry's sweeping theme.

RIP Mr. Pollack

My Mrs. chanced in to being a stand in for one of Mr Pollack's films and she said he was always a gentleman. Sidney always treatedb her withn respect, which could not be said of many of the "techies" especially when Sidney wasn't around. Once he caught her reading, "what is it ? asked Mr Pollack- "Graham Greene" said the Mrs. "Ahh Graham Greene," said Sidney "He's the best' and then he wandered off. My Mrs. was in tears this morning when the news came on the radio. A fine and talented man for sure.

I think the only film I have seen made by Sidney was The Yakuza, starring Robert Mitchum. Nonetheless, his reputation as a great director is well cemented and his name will live on for a very long time.

Not only would I say this man was a talent, I would say he was truly great. An excellent director and actor he added presence to anything he was in on screen. He had a warmth about him which conveyed to me a sense that he would be very upfront, but giving and loyal on a personal level, did anyone on here know him well enough to know if this was the case?

Sadly I never met him.

RIP Mr Pollack, you were a true genius.
