Keith Waterhouse in yesterday's Daily Mail, paid tribute to Willis Hall his longtime collaborator, who died this week. Willis Hall,of course, wrote the play The Long and the Short and the Tall which became a film starring Laurence Harvey, and he wrote the screenplays for Whistle Down The Wind,A Kind Of Loving,Billy Liar (from KW's book) and Lock Up Your Daughter. You might be able to read Waterhouse's full tribute on www.dailymail.co.uk/keithwaterhouse.

Good solid writer who will be hard to replace. I loved "BUDGIE" and a sitcom he did for the late great Roy Kinnear "INSIDE GEORGE WEBLEY" with Patsy Rowlands, who past on recently, as his wife Rose. Did a fine job for Schlesinger on "A KIND OF LOVING" 1962 adapting Stan Barstow's novel for the screen.

Waterhouse and Hall were a good pair of reliable writers - good quality stuff. Shame to hear about Willis Hall. I dread anything happening to Waterhouse as he is one of my favourite 'fogeys'. His column in SAGA mag (I read it at the in-laws ; Honest ! ) is brilliant.

Talent like these two had is thin on the ground these days ; people like them had really 'lived'.
