Default Ken Russell -Decline and Fall

A colleague recently noticed a job advertisement for a Make-up artist on a new 'Ken Russell film'. The job was unpaid but was sold as a unique opportunity to work with one of the great directors.

Russell really is on his uppers these days, literally making films in his garden shed for virtually nothing and trading on his name to get anyone to work with him, always for nothing. Can't say I was ever much of a fan of his (tended to side with Alexander Walker's view of his films) but how the once briefly mighty, have fallen.

He's been doing this for the last ten years or so and enjoying himself enormously I suspect.

He is working on his present film with Harry Alan Towers so that should tell you something

In his day he was, excluding the Bond directors, the most successful British director of his generation. IMHO nothing is Beyond Our Ken. He may yet surprise us all with a comeback.

All I can say about Ken Russell is Good Old Ken, I worked as a utility stand-in on the film "Tommy" found that, as long as everybody knew what they were doing, he was as good as gold, I liked him a lot, I would love to see him make a big come back.

Instead of wrestling or fencing with rolled up newspapers I think they should be forced to watch each others back catalogues

I would guess that having been a public figure as he was in the 60s and 70s he was feeling forgotten by subsequent generations and felt the need of the exposure. He would also have hoped that it might have helped in financing his films - don't think it helped him in that respect though

I believe they get about £30,000 for three weeks work - I'd be surprised if directing financially unsuccessful indie films pays as well as that.
