Six of One's website (The Prisoner Appreciation Society) states that the Directors Guild Of America has confirmed the passing of David Tomblin, producer, writer and generally Patrick McGoohan's right hand man on the cult 60s series.

Tomblin had a long career in film and television and was arguably the best first assistant director in Sexy Beast, with credits such as GANDHI, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, RETURN OF THE JEDI and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK being just a handful of the top-grossing films he worked on.

Tomblin restricted his own directorial efforts to the small screen, however, helming episodes of UFO and SPACE 1999 for Gerry Anderson.

IMDb reports that he was still working in 2005 :

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0866563/

He will certainly be a hard act to follow.

Respect,

SMUDGE

Spielberg described him as the best assistant director ever! He shot a lot on EBS and ROTJ. From the docos I've seen, he seemed a very no nonsense man. He will be missed I'm sure.

Coincidentally, I've just been watching an interview with him in a Prisoner documentary on YouTube.

So shouldn't that have been ESB then?
Or was it really The Empire Backs Strikes?
