Try googling some of the major agents. Their webpages will tell you which clients they represent. Also try googling each of the three directors who may have their own websites. Surely Sophia has something out there. The trick of research is coming up with multiple handles or words/phrases for your search engine. It's out there. Keep trying. Also try your library for reference works that have lists of theatrical agents plus their contact info. Try a free trial membership of IMBDPro which will give you all, or much of the information like this that you need for your research. Last resort, how about your research director who ought to be able to point you in the right direction? It's all out there. Good luck in the searching and the paper, Barbara |

Glad to be of help. Been there, done that as a beginner in research. Believe me, sooner or later you'll be out there on your own with no one giving you answers, so knowing the basic research steps and questions to ask will stand you in good stead for future papers, no matter what the topic. I would stand back and Google broader areas, such as "theatrical agents" or "agents for directors" which will give you tons of info you will have to sort through, but that's the nature of the research hunt. Eventually, you will find the agents for the three female directors you listed if in fact IMDBPro doesn't immediately. For example, a Google I just did for "Agent for Sofia Coppola" coughed up lots of goodies, including an in-depth interview Sofia did discussing her role as director, etc. of Lost in Translation. So all the information you want is out there. Zoom out with a general search and when that doesn't work, zoom in with more specific words/phrases. Good luck, Barbara |

I wish you much good luck in your search for material. And Woman to Woman: I could have fed you the answers. But I preferred to suggest ways that would empower you to conduct your own investigation as an independent woman researcher...following in the path of the independent women directors you have chosen as the focus of your paper. Go for it. Barbara |

-Sofia Coppola for Lost In translation -Jane Campion for The Piano (1993-I think, could be '94) -and Lina (... tee hee...) Wertmuller for Seven Beauties. (late-1970s) Speaking of which, does anyone know where I'd be able to get The Piano, and Seven Beauties? they're quite old films, and I'm not sure if the local Appolo video store would have it. It should have Lost In Translation, but I don't think it'll have The Piano and Seven Beauties. I'd prefer it if anyone could suggest shops rather than websites, because I just want to rent them out. Thanks |
