John -

Just wanted to say how much I've always loved your TV horror/thrillers. I count HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, HOUSE THAT WOULD NOT DIE, and THE NIGHT STALKER as true gems of the genre.

If you liked The House That Would Not Die, then you would love the other film John did with Stanwyck the following year, A Taste of Evil (1971). Also starring Roddy McDowell, Barbara Parkins, Arthur O' Connell and William Windom.

Iam not a great lover of horror films in general but I do enjoy them when they have that degree of thriller in them. The Night Stalker is one and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed is another. They are about the only horror films I have in my collection. I had to get TNS from the USA. Its a double feature with The Night Strangler also has a couple of featurette interviews with Dan Curtis who produced both films but only directed one. The only shame is that they forgot to ask John Llewellyn Moxey to do a featurette on The Stalker.
Hope they didn't forget the cheque John.

John, you still haven't replied to my last email. Would it be easier if I posted it in this thread?

I was watching an interesting and well done obscurity of yours last night - the unsold pilot film The Solarnauts from 1967. It's a real shame that it never went to a series as it's by far the best work of its producers, Roberta Leigh and Arthur Provis.

I know people who would be fascinated to hear any memories you have of the making of this show - can I drop you a PM, John?

Default Dial M for murder

John i wondered if you had any memories of working with the unpredictable Lawrence Harvey on 'Dial M for Murder'..
I think this was the last play you made in Britain in the 1960s before Hollywood beckoned?

Also has anyone seen it since ? as I understand it was shot on videotape and therefore its survival not guaranteed.

Please drop me a PM. As to the Solarnauts, I am afraid it is only a dim memory.

Laurence Harvey was a good friend, and very easy to work with. The Tape must be in the David Susskind vaults.

I am glad you enjoyed it!

That is nice to hear, John, especially when you've heard so many bad words from some of his colleagues in the past. Would really love to see this production of "Dial M for Murder".

Best regards,
Hummies

John
I did do when you explained that a few months back, but still never got a reply.

I'll send the last three questions again, as well as a couple of queries about I, DESIRE, which I'm just about to see.

Thanks, Jack.

John, I am the current owner of "Moya", a lovely old cutter which I understand you owned from 1960 to 1969. She is a hundred years old now, still a beauty. I am writing a book about her, and I NEED to know: did she ever feature in one of your movies? God, what beautiful stories are emerging from her past! Piero.

Piero, How glad I am to hear she is in the hands of someone who appreciates her. She is a great, and happy little ship. I say happy because one night, alone in the cockpit, I could swear i heard laughter.
I never did use her in any movie. We did win a cup in the Old Gaffers race one year. That was soon after I had a new topsail!!

All the best, and please keep in touch.

John
