A great and largely unsung, in this country, director. He went to the States in the sixties and stayed there directing many tv series episodes but also quite a few tv movies, some of which are now cult horror films.

2 of my favourites for instance:

The Strange and Deadly Occurrence (1974)

    The Night Stalker (1972)

He doesn't do cinema preferring to work within the budgetary confines of television.

His most recent work is overseeing some of his releases on dvd.

He gave a spectacularly one-sided interview to DVDEmpire a couple of years ago which didn't really endear him to his many fans, I'm sure.

    Well said MoEW and PJ.

I wonder if there is any hope at all that the "Edgar Wallace Mysteries" might see a DVD release? I would have thought they would make ideal box sets due to the @60 mins running time?

I can't remember how I first came across CITY OF THE DEAD, I suspect it was by recommendation, but I am certainly glad I did. What a cracking film !

The casting of the priest - and what a great opening shot of him. Plus the swift disposal of the heroine. A great atmosphere too.

Chris Lee & Patricia Jessel in the same movie ? Excellent stuff.

John might be glad to know that Denis Lotis is still playing the circuit, doing the rounds on the 'seniors specialist' holidays - still crooning....

Denis Lotus still performing? Strewth!! Good on him. To digress only slightly, Freddie Garrity (Freddie and the Dreamers) has died after being ill for a while. I know he hardly had much of a Britmovie career but thought I'd mark it.

I called him at home when I was reviewing City of the Dead for EInsiders.com. He lived in Washington state in the US at the time. He was not very coherent at the time and I couldn't use what he gave me in the review. No matter what has happened to him over time, he made some memorable films!

It must have been due to the difference in time zones. I feel like an ass now. My humble apologies if my post seemed rude. The important part of the post was the last line. You sir, have made some very memorable films. For which we are all indebted.

Whilst we've got your attention John, out of curiosity, which of your own works ranks as your favourite and are there any particular regrets or projects that never got off the ground?

Great to have you as part of the Forum John.

For many years you were simply known as John Moxey.

Is the story true that you only added the Llewellyn as your middle name after receiving advice from a numerologist?

Which also beggars the question, are you very superstitious?

Were there certain mystical "signs" that you looked for before you would be happy to take on a film project?

    Cheers

    Dave.

Robert Helpman (as he was born) added an extra 'n' to the end of his surname to avoid having 13 letters in his name.

Steve...Llewellyn is my real middle name. On the beach at Malibu a numerologist suggested that I added it to my screen name. I did!! All the best John.

I wish I knew how to add Oops it happened..Wonders never cease!

I am Married to Jane and I have 2 sons Robin John, and Timothy Llewellyn!

I started as John Moxey, directing in the UK and when I first moved to the states. I added my middle name, after sitting on the beach, out of work, and was advised by the numerologist.

As to evasiveness, I applogise. I really have nothing to hide. Ask me anything you like, if you need more proof, and I will be happy to answer.

    Cheers John Llewellyn

    Hello, Mr. Moxey,

Please rest easy. No need for you or anyone else to prove themselves, as far as I'm concerned. I prefer to think that you are the fine director John llewellyn Moxey. And if not, well... nothing lost, but I've gained an opportunity to discuss my favourite JLM films, especially The Night Stalker.

Did you do any film work in Argentina as you were starting out in the business?

    Thanks,

    Barbara

If you look further into that IMDb filmography you'll see that some of his early work was credited as just John Moxey. It's quite often the case that people have a middle name, but don't use all their names professionally. It's entirely up to individuals how many of their names they use professionally - or if they make up their professional name.

    Hello John

I joined the BECTU Film and History Project team recently and was wondering if you would consider being interviewed the enxt time you come to England.

I happen to be planning to ask Bernard Ebbinghouse for an interview for the project. He doesn't live too far away from me (in South London). Although I watched many of the Edgar Wallace films in the mid 1980s on television, there seem to be more qualified people to interview him on here and wondered if anybody not living too far away would like to volounteer to interview him (I would perform the task of recording / filming it if he agrees to it). Travel expenses only, we are all volounteers.
