Andrew Mazzei (born Havre, France 2nd August 1887 - died Cornwall, England 6th august 1975), of Italian / French parentage was a British Film Art Director who worked on over 60 films from 1926-1952.

He began working with the "Famous Players Lasky Film Co." in the early 1920's, and then worked for J. H. Productions, based at Elstree. He worked on many films directed by Maurice Elvey, and famous actors such as Phyllis Calvert, Richard Attenborough, Michael Redgrave and Stewart Granger to name a few acted in films he worked on.

He also designed many rooms for the Blackpool Tower & Winter Gardens Co. in the 1930's.

His film credits include three versions of Hindle Wakes (1927, 1931 and 1952), Rome Express (1931), Madonna of the Seven Moons (1944), The Upturned Glass (1947) etc.

If anybody has any further information on Andrew, I would love to hear from you, as he was my Great-Grandfathers' cousin.

    Regards,

    Darin, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Hi Darin, I realise this may be years later as a reply to your post, but today I came across a photo of Andrew Mazzei. He was in the line-up of production staff and cast for a V Gareth Gundrey film in the early 1930s. I'm not sure which film it was, perhaps a lost version of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. The photo was in the collection of Elizabeth Gundrey, Gareth's 85-year-old daughter. She knew Andrew well as he and her father were good friends. If you'd like a copy of the picture, do let me know.

    Hi Rory,

I have just stumbled across your message.

Please get back in touch as I would love a copy of Andrew Mazzei's photo.

I had tried leaving a message on here with my e-mail address, but it doesn't look like it's been posted.

If you reply on here then we'll work out how to contact each other privately.

    Thanks,

    Darin.
