Paul McCartney's birthday seems as good a day as any to start this thread - a follow up to the _Sgt. Pepper project...

Paul McCartney's birthday seems as good a day as any to start this thread - a follow up to the Sgt. Pepper project. I continue to be astonished by the discoveries made (especially The Petty Girls illustration from Esquire magazine). Most of mine were about three years ago so I'm pleased to have encountered other like-minded folk who are more committed than I am these days.

Let's hope we can have similar success with The White Album poster. Here is the full-length version,
which I have divided into three parts (see links below and my next post, hopefully) for closer scrutiny:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

One picture happens to be the avatar of our Tonch:

But where is it from? Maybe the Revolution promo (which I haven't seen for years)? I know the cropped photograph
of Ringo playing drums is. And I also know that this image of him is from The Beatles' 'Mad Day Out' (28th July 1968):

Other images are clearly from the Sgt. Pepper sessions, the group's visit to India and their Hamburg days. Can you help with any others?

Well you do not if you went with these excuses......

"Apparently my dog, which is a corgi, was related to the Queen's dog so I didn't think I needed a TV licence"

"Why would I need a TV licence for a TV I stole? Nobody knows I've got it"

"Only my three-year-old son watches the TV. Can you take it out of the family allowance I receive for him? He watches it so he should pay"

"I had not paid as I received a lethal injection"

"I don't want to pay for a licence for a full year. Knowing my luck I'll be dead in six months and won't get value for money"

"I have lost weight recently and had to buy new clothes. That's why I could not afford to buy a TV licence"

Last night, I saw an advert on TV seeking new recruits for the British Army. This morning on the BBC Breakfast News, we were told that redundancies are being made by the British Army. One high ranking officer is even being made redundant 83 days short of his pension kicking in. I can't see the sense in off-loading trained personel and replacing them with "trainees". I also thought that it was illegal to seek redundancies only to recruit new personel. Please explain the logic, if you can ?

New version of Superman with British actor Henry Cavill in the title role and Amy Adams as Lois Lane with Russell Crowe playing Superman's father.

Very loud and bash, crash - buildings tumbling down it seems in most scenes. Apart from that, I thought the story line was thin, Superman arrives on Earth as a baby etc etc, but hope for the future when they no doubt will serve up a proper film with a decent story line.

Best thing about the film is Henry Cavill who has a strong resemblance to Christopher Reeve and I thought he was excellent and saved it.

5 out of 10

What was the ending? as we missed the last few mins! :o

Our set-top box missed the last few crucial moments! The prog must have been late starting i.e. ran on too long and the digital recording missed the end of the episode.

This was a superb 5-part drama, created & written by the great Anthony Horowitz (screenwriter for 'Poirot'; ditto plus creator of 'Foyle's War'; plus writer of a range of books).

We recorded it in January & only got around to watching it this weekend; so of course it's no longer available anywhere online or on Freeview TV to rewatch!

We saw up to the last 3mins! of the final episode. The last bit we saw was the scene in the car park, then a shot of the detective sitting as his desk going through the other detective's (Charlie Creed-Miles character's) notes; then the remainder of the episode was 'missed off' by our set-top box!!

So we don't know what 'happened'! :o [I will not give details here re the plot, to avoid any spoilers! ]

Can anyone who watched the last few scenes let us know what happened in the the last few moments in the storyline??

BTW, it might be best to send us a PM re the story ending, again to avoid spoilers.

It would be much appreciated!

I have interviewed a lot of people for this, the first ever biography of Ian Hendry. The book's title is called Send in the Clowns - the Yo Yo Life of Ian Hendry. I've interviewed Janette Scott, John Nettles, Roger Moore, Bruce Montague, Mike Hodges, Britt Ekland, Annette Andre, Oliver Tobias, Madeline Smith and Roy Thinnes, to name but a few. I have (hopefully) covered just about every film and major TV series Ian was involved in - Police Surgeon, The Lotus Eaters, The Avengers, The Informer, For Maddie with Love, The Adventures of Don Quick etc. There's a tremendous lot about acting in this book which is, in my opinion, an omission from other actors' biographies. I was amazed at how popular Ian was in the business and very few people I spoke to had bad words to say about him. There's a great deal of information on films such as The Hill, Get Carter (on which he feuded with Michael Caine) and Theatre of Blood, indeed just every film Ian appeared in is covered. Although Ian had a drink problem I have tried to avoid the book reading like a series of boozy anecdotes. Admittedly, there are stories related to Ian's drinking but the main focus is on the wonderful films and TV roles and Ian's relationship with Janet Munro. I hope you all like it. Reviews, compliments, bouquets and brickbats all welcome. The book is available as a paperback and as an eBook. http://www.lulu.com/shop/gabriel-her...-20974696.html If you like the book, please tell others.

I wonder what it would have been like to work as an extra in the early 50's, when us Brit's still made lots of movies? I'm thinking of the period BA (Before 'Aitch..).

I don't know what the pay was like in those day's, but I guess it must have been pretty hard for that hardy gang fresh from the Army. How did the likes of Victor Harrington, Jim Brady and John Tatum find out about walk on parts? I guess there must have been casting agencies for Extra's as there is now, but with rationing, lack of petrol (If you were lucky enough to have a car) must have made it a long day, especially if you were at an out of town studio such as Pinewood or Elstree, miles from the station.
Would Victor standing outside a producers office, suddenly be told you've got to be ready and dressed in your tuxedo for a dancing scene at Shepperton in an hour?

Was there a pecking order for extra's in those days? Did Victor or Jim B. start on crowd scenes and gradually worked there way to the front and a possible line?

Would Victor be told bring your own tux? or Jim bring your cap..

As we know the Victor's and Jim B's probably appeared in a dozen or more films a year to make a living. Did they take on additional non film work to earn a crust. It's not hard to imagine Jim B. doing a bit of labouring or Victor doing some Cab driving, Ernie Rice and Jim doing some boxing coaching :five:

As someone who has done a bit of writing in his time, it could be the basis for a novel.
