I watched There is Another Sun on Movies4Men this weekend. I have not seen it before and I was a bit disappointed, I found it rather uninvolving, predictable and lacking any tension. The one thing that did intrigue me was the title, There is Another Sun. What does it mean, where did it come from is it a quote from somewhere ?

I understand the the film was first released in 1951 and did not do very well at the box-office, but it was re-released in 1953 with the title Wall of Death and did much better but I would still like to know where the original title came from.

I remember a film (early 60s?) in which Stanley Baxter played a POW who looked the same as the Camp Commandant, so he impersonated him in order to escape ... The scene that sticks in my mind is one where they combed toothpaste into his sideburns with a toothbrush to whiten them; I always thought that was very neat. The thing is, nothing on imdb springs out ... Was it not Baxter? Did I dream the whole thing?

I have just watched the most utter dross (a newish US film) - Highwaymen. So bad I had to FF it.

A road warrior vigilante movie with a Bacccrarruder and a killer punch line at the end. The killer has allsorts of bits replaced.

But I can't remember which film features a running joke about replacement limbs and bits dropping off. I seem to remember its a bit Ripping Yarns-ish. Brazil-ish.

Any ideas. It's driving me battier.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977 Edition:A baffling question to ask???????????

I know this is NOT a British film but it is a question I need answering (I can not find any info on anywhere so I am asking here) so I am asking please MODS do not delete this solely on the basis it is not a British film.............

Given that Close Encounters of the Third Kind The Special Edition came out in the cinema and on video,Laser Disc,DVD and Blu Ray.

Here comes my baffling question  :(

How come Close Encounters of the Third Kind The ( 1977 Theatrical Edition) NEVER got released officially on Home Video ANYWHERE in the world ?

Several versions of CE3K have been released over the years since 1980....

The Criterion Collection 3-disc Laserdisc released in 1990 featured both the 1977 Theatrical & 1980 Special Edition cuts.

A final version of "Close Encounters" was released to video in 1998 (and then on DVD in 2001) as "The Collector's Edition". It is basically Spielberg's final 137-minute re-edit of the original version plus some sequences from the 1980 "Special Edition"

As of 2013,All Theatrical cuts of the film on Laserdisc,DVD and and Blu Ray does indeed include the Original 1977 version but this also included a '1980 Special Edition shot' of a shadowed spaceship flying over Roy's truck at Steven Spielberg request.

So we never really got a 1977 Theatrical cut on Laserdisc,DVD or Blu Ray release either.:(

I got to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 on it's first run in the cinema and thank goodness I did.

Hi, so i was wondering what are some of people's top British comedy actors around at the moment?
I really love watching films like Four Lions and Sightseers where there's comedy around a dark story.

Some of my favourites at the moment are: Steve Oram, Michael Smiley, Tony Way, Kayvan Novak & Greg Davies.

Be good to hear about other people's, and good films/shows to check out.

Cheers.

I have a couple of copies of this, and both seem to have been cut. Near the end the "bad guy" gets arrested on the train, then the film ends abruptly! But in the cast at the end there are listed a prison chaplain, hangman, etc. which would indicate that there was originally a closing scene. Does anyone out there have a complete copy of this? My running time is 87 min., and according to IMDb the original is 92 min. Thanks!

The British film director Peter Watkins has his own website, he discusses his own films ; Diary of an Unknown Soldier, Forgotten Faces, Culloden, The War Game, Privilege, Gladiator, Punishment Park, The Trap, Seventies People, Edvard Munch, Eveningland, The Journey, The Freethinker and La Commune. He also acknowledges juvenalia, his amateur early films 1956 The Web and 1958 Field of Red.
There is no mention of his 1963 Central Office of Information film The Controllers, about air traffic controllers (released on DVD on "British Air Traffic Control 1963-1973).
I found out he directed several more films according to several websites.
1962 - Dust Fever - a western according to BFI
1979 - Strindberg - August Strindberg was the subject of his 1994 film The Freethinker, did he attempt to film this earlier ? (CITWF database)
1991 - The Media Project - an Australian documentary according to IMDb
? - Coup D'Etat - a Danish film according to BFI
None of these films are mentioned on Peter Watkins own website, did they actually get made ? or were they completed and not shown ?
Does anyone know anything about these ?
