Is anybody else having trouble with i-Tunes since it was updated?

I've lost all of my playlists on the new version and my songs keep disappearing - I'm constantly having to drag them off of my hard drive.

I now have two completely different music libraries on my PC i-Tunes and my i-Pod Nano and I can't even sync the Nano any more or I'll lose everything I've got on there!

Thanks to Santander repaying my PPI I will be replacing my old Philips CRT 26" with a modern set.32 -42 inch and after surfing the net narrowed down to Philips,Panasonic or possibly Samsung/LG.Do any members have recommendations eg. led or plasma,or has anyone had particularly good or bad experience with a brand.
I'm not interested in 3D or web access, skype or any of that malarkey.Picture, reliability and connectability for 5.1 surround system, digital recorder, dvd recorder and media player/usb hard drive are the prime requirements.
Locally there's only Asda and Sainsbury's with Polaroid and some others I hadn't heard of before,so I'll have a wander to the "Toon" and check out John Lewis and JG windows, but it would be nice to have some user data before that if possible.Ta Muchly.

Kindle Fire HD as a HTPC?

Inspired in part by the "Tablet" thread on here I had a bit of a wallet itch and bought myself a Kindle Fire HD 16GB for £159.00. I already have an (excellent) Acer Revo 3700 PC linked by HDMI to my 46" Samsung LED Smart television used for playing 4od/BBCiPlayer/Netflix/Lovefilm/YouTube as well as web searching, plus a smartphone, so yes I know I had no real need to buy one, but with a Christmas gift card needing to be spent I did my research...

But is the Kindle Fire HD any good? In short, to me it is yes, even straight out of the box it was a very capable machine and did most of the things I used my HTPC Acer Revo for, while after a tiny bit of Googling and minor tweaking (fairly easy, no warranty-risk rooting required) it now does everything the Revo did for me. Plus - harking back to the "Tablet" thread for a moment - it's portable, so by using a VPN service tablets can access UK content (eg. BBCiPlayer etc.) when abroad. But is 16GB enough storage? Well, not really, it'll hold perhaps a couple of DVD's or a few more films in MP4 format, but it's with WiFi that it comes into its own. Besides, I use a media player/HDD combination if I'm taking lots of films on holiday.

It's priced at a much lower price than the obvious competition too: the iPad Mini 16GB is at least £100 more expensive and doesn't have HDMI out connection. Another tablet I researched and tried was the Nexus 7" 16GB - it's now roughly the same price as the Kindle Fire HD 16GB, but doesn't have an HDMI out connection either. As for quality of picture and sound, I found the Kindle and Nexus to be the best and pretty much the same regarding an excellent picture quality, while the Kindle easily beat the other two for sound quality.

So then, if you're like me and like to stream movies (in HD too if available/if you wish) from your Netflix or Lovefilm accounts to your living room TV, or watch TV/films (when WiFi is available) via HDMI linking to an hotel room TV when in this country or abroad, I can only say I've found the Kindle Fire HD to be a good choice.

Now I'm not selling the Kindle Fire HD, nor trying to promote it on behalf of Amazon at all - instead I merely carried out some research with an open mind, tried the tablets I've mentioned and bought the one that met my needs best. So my conclusion is that it provides the best value for money if you want a useful and portable HTPC setup.

You'll notice I've not commented on apps, camera or music playing functions, nor have I tried to fully compare the devices capabilities - I'll leave that for others to comment on (and get heated about) elsewhere :)

Hi forum members

Yesterday evening I encountered a problem with my Philips 5520H DVD Player/Recorder. I've had the Philips DVD player/recorder for about 3/4 years and yesterday evening it started freezing and then switched itself on/off automatically after about 5 minutes. It makes no difference if I'm watching a DVD or watching something I've recorded off the hard drive or even if the DVD player/recorder is just on. It's never happened before and I had no problems when I finished recording the Top of The Pops 2 March 1978 edition on Thursday evening.

It was really annoying especially as I wanted to record the Dusty Springfield special last night on BBC4.

I thought it might be a scart lead problem or even due to space on the hard drive but I'm not sure whether this would cause it to freeze & then switch on/off.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Many thanks

Joe
