I'm trying to track down a deeply scary TV play that I saw as a youngster - possibly the very late 50's or early 60's. I could be wrong, but it may have been one in a series of TV chillers (along the lines of MENACE - although it wasn't this series).

A repressed, withdrawn young man is haunted by his childhood fears that when he was alone at home - at night - the furniture in his bedroom would come 'alive'; that it would move of its own accord with evil intent.

A young girl takes an interest in him - and a potential romance begins to develop, but ....

Well, he ends up nailing/crucifying her to a wooden table - the last shot in the play, as the camera moves in on him cowering (like the scared boy he was) in a corner.

I was utterly convinced that the actor was Colin Jeavons - but nothing on IMDB suggests anything remotely like the above.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I guess this is an impossible request, especially for something so obscure, but here goes.

Back in the early 70's a documentary was made by the late broadscaster Ray Gosling called Kirkby, Portrait Of A Town. I was living there at the time as a young boy and remember it being filmed, and was even in it very briefly.

I see a listing for it on the BFI website, but it have never been available on any format as far as I am aware since the initial screening, not even on youtube.

There was also a follow-up documentary called Kirkby - A Self Portrait, made independently by some local people as a response to what they considered to be a hatchet job by the original documentary.

I don't suppose anyone out there would either have a copy of know how to get hold of a copy of the original documentary?

By the way, this is not to be confused with the Nick Broomfield documetary Kirkby - Behind The Rent Strike, which is available on youtube and also on a box set dvd.

Apologies if there is a thread somewhere running about PIFs, feel free to move if so (couldn't find one with the search)

Anyhow, one of the PIFs from my childhood that I can't get out of my head (along with "Firework Girl") is a historical shorts about Corfe Castle. It was on loads during the day and reminds me of carefree days off with my departed mum.

Very sunny, very quiet, lots of lingering shots with golden gorse flowers blowing in the foreground. For some reason I found it extremely evocative, especially when it was describing the battles and had sound bites of shouts/screams/clashing swords etc over hastily cut and changing screen angles.

For all the "Charlie says" etc DVDs I've bought and borrowed I've never found it again, and it stopped being shown in the early 80s
