Recently watched The Entertainer with Laurence Olivier (what an actor) and Joan Plowright. I’ve been trying to find out where they filmed it, WikipediA say in and around Morecombe? I was down that way a few years back and don’t remember seeing a grand pier (did they use one at Blackpool) or the building used that had Archies giant picture on the front .

In fact I was a little disappointed the seafront looked a little rundown and neglected. We did have our picture taking next to Eric Morecambe and had a lovely day…

    Many thanks..

The old music hall was the "Alhambra Theatre" in Bradford, thankfully it is still there, preserved and a working theatre. The film was indeed mainly shot in Morcambe, I think its changed a lot in the 50 years since the film was shot.

I had found those links Bats, thanks all the same. It was the pier that puzzled me Christoph as we never saw it when in Morecombe..

I will be down that way in the summer to will try and visit the Alhambra Theatre and other locations..

    Many thanks all.

    From Wikipedia:

    Two piers were lost:

West End Pier was washed away in a storm in 1978

    while

Central Pier, though struck by fire in 1933, survived until 1992.

FRANCIS FRITH: 36 Photos of Morecambe

There were actually 2 piers at Morecambe.

One was the Central Pier (1869-1992) and the other the West End Pier (1896-1978).

... and from a person that have never lived in UK.

I always wish living in one of the british seaside resorts or spa towns, but it seems unreachable...

I need an employment in UK as soon as possible. Please...

This so called "life" in Macedonia is driving me crazy!!!

IMDB have got it wrong I'm afraid. The theatre used in 'The Entertainer' was The Alhambra Theatre, Morecambe, not Bradford. The theatre was on the sea-front more or less opposite one of the piers as shown in the film. Ten years after the filming, the inside was gutted by fire, but the building still stands and is I believe now used as a disco.

The Alhambra, Bradford was used during the filming of 'The Dresser' but it has virtually been rebuilt since then.

So correct it. That's how the IMDb works, we all contribute what we know

Actually, yes..I think you are quite right..its The Alhambra Morcambe for both exterior and interior shots. Shame it got gutted by fire, apparently the stage area got bricked over with a large wall when it was converted to a 1970s disco, what a dreadfull fate for such a nice building!

The pier used in 'The Entertainer' was West End Pier.

West End Pier was located at the same direction as Regent Road.

    Alhambra Theatre is marked RED...

I know Morecambe gets a bad press and has lost the piers but real efforts have been made to improve the front including the re-vamped "Midland Hotel" which many will have seen in Poirot, I have some photos here

The theatre was the Alhambra in Morecambe, which also provided exterior locations as did both Blackpool and Bradford. Studio interiors were shot at Shepperton.
