The railway scene was filmed on the Dart Valley Railway (which in those days ran from Totnes to Ashburton) near Staverton at a place called Napper's Crossing. The line survives as a heritage railway as far as Buckfastleigh.
Some grabs from the Rex Harrison film shot around Dartmoor. I believe Hendley to be fictional.
