If my memory serves me right Chevyman has explored all the buildings on his hols, so may know about the Ship inn location.
I know there must be some info on one of the threads, if I come across it I will bring it up again here.
Having seen this 1946 film this week, I was wondering the location of the following buildings in the film:
1) Joe Gargery's Forge on the Marshes.
2) The Ship Inn, by the estuary side, where Pip and Herbert wait to transfer Magwitch on to the Packet.
I have read that the Paddle Steamer 'Rotterdam' was filmed in the Medway and the marsh scenes were filmed on St.Mary's Marshes west of Allhallows.
However, I was intringued to know the location of the two isolated buildings and if they are still standing.

Thanks for the replies. It is the Forge and Pub on the windswept marshes as shown in the film that I am intrigued with. The Ship & Lobster in Denton Gravesend is not the pub in the film, nor the Forge in Chalk which are the two buildings associated with the Book. I was wondering if the Shipwright Arms at Hollow Shore (where Faversham Creek meets Oare Creek) might be a contender for the Ship Inn in the film. As for the Forge I do not have a clue, unless it is on St.Mary's Marsh, Allhallows where the marsh scenes were filmed.
