Does anyone know the English village which was used in this 1942 Ealing classic? Would be great to be able to see some pictures as well, to see whether it has changed much over the years.

It has appeared in many films and TV shows now - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Midsomer Murders, Vicar of Dibley, Goodnight Mister Tom, Paradise Postponed, A Voyage Round My Father (the late Sir John Mortimer used to live there). It's well worth taking a look at Carlito's site, My Beautiful Ealing as he has some Then and Now shots from Went the Day Well?

It's a nice place to visit too. Friendly pub and plenty of interesting properties.

As well as being used in every episode of The Vicar of Dibley, the church is used for the golfing wedding in Dead of Night
