My colleague wrote about the Standard Atlas, later the Leyland 15 and 20, in a past issue of VINTAGE ROADSCENE. Check out our magazine some time!

Looks like they were taken over a few years ago.
I was in contact with a chap who was part of a group of owner drivers who bought out what was left of RMC London. I had a letter from him just before they moved from Leamouth Rd. Last I heard was that they were in Cody Rd. Canning Town. I haven't heard anything for 10 years or more, so they may have been taken over by now. It would be a shame as it was my last link with dad's old firm. For some strange reason, I always reckoned I would end up driving for them.

I believe that this rare colour shot of a Drinkwater Dodge tipper, a later model with Airflow Streamlines cab as against the Briggs Motor Bodies cab of the film trucks, shows the green adequately:

Further to all the quarry stuff earlier, I'm pretty confident the money-shot was filmed at this one. The location (shown earlier) of where Red waits for Tom and the directions the trucks drive in, works for this quarry too.

Here's the screen-shot

They both get bigger if you press them.........

The quarry is very visible from across the river valley even today.......... and as there doesn't seem to be another quarry anywhere nearby on that hillside, I feel it must be this one even though I couldn't get the exact angle of the screen-shot because of vegetation and modern fencing.

Finally.... if I'm right.........
Here lies Red
His head fell on a rock

The wooden structure is at the top of Truleigh Hill where the road bears to the right.
That would tie in with what the locals in my village remember and the Press coverage in the Shoreham local paper at the time.- That a tipper did go over the edge.It may not have been a Dodge though.
It is not to be confused with the Upper Beeding cement works ( now disused).
Another local remembers filming taking place on the Zig Zag, Boxhill when he was living there.
The opening shots are very similar but a previous post indicated that they may have been on the A27 near Warningcamp.
A similar shot to your third photo across the valley appears on the "Test run" which was probably taken from the old road out of Steyning as the railway used to run on part of what is now the By pass.

Hello, this is my first post on here (hope it's not my last!)

Anyway, I love this film and have followed this board for a couple of years with interest.
Just wondered if the following continuity error had been flagged yet ? (I'm sure it probably has, but I'd not spotted it before tonight :))

>During the visit to the ballast quarry, Stanley Baker is initially wearing a tie which magically disappears in the next shot.

(Sorry if I'm repeating an earlier post)

"Be seeing you" :)

Just to clarify first posting: It's the first visit to the ballast quarry on the trial run!

Default Hell Drivers production photos

Hello everyone

I thought it might be worth mentioning that I've posted some scans from 4" x 5" and 2 1/4" square negatives from the production of 'Hell Drivers' here:

Hell Drivers (1957)

a brief description of how I came to acquire these and other negs from other Pinewood productions is here:

Pinewood Studios - The Early Years

I'd also like to contact Biffer as I would like to use his explanation of Hell Drivers on the first page of this thread. I have put it up there on the 'Hell Drivers' page and will remove if necessary.
I can make all my scans available (at full resolution) for upload if anyone wants them.

Great stills Dennis. You don't get resolution like that from 35mm !

Yes, they certainly have weathered the test of time considering the conditions they were originally kept in.

BTW if anyone wants to write a few captions to any shots that are nameless I can include them as I continue to build the pages or if anyone notices mistakes I have made then please don't hesitate to contact me.
My email is on the biography page on my website.

Cheers, Nick! I think I've pinned the two Bogarde photos and I have let Dennis know. I'll check for sure next week when I get home to my sources.

It's really exciting to come across new photos and for me, of course, doubly so for Bogarde ones. I always think I've seen them all until treasures like these come along.

Dennis is wonderful in sharing them with members. And many, many thanks to you for the alert.

All the best,

Barbara
